Mission
Projects:
Prayer Blankets for Children

The brightly-colored fleece blankets on the table in the
office hallway will be taken, upon completion, to the
intensive care unit at Rainbow Babies and Children’s
Hospital. Members and friends of Epworth-Euclid United
Methodist Church are encouraged to help complete the
blankets by taking two strips of the edge fringe and
tying them together in a double knot. As each knot is
tied, the one tying is asked to breathe a silent prayer
for the child that will receive the blanket.
Participants are invited and encouraged to tie as many
strips as they wish. As each blanket is completed a new
“untied” blanket will take its place—so there are lots
of knots to be tied and lots of prayers to be said. This
“love blanket” project is sponsored by United Methodist
Women. Please stop in the office hallway to participate
in “tying a blanket of love” for one of God’s precious
children.
Christmas Baskets
On Saturday, December 22, members of Epworth-Euclid and
Mayfield United Methodist Churches gathered at InterAct
Cleveland’s Hunger Center to pack Christmas Baskets for
75 families. The group shared good fellowship as they
worked together on this worthy project. Under the
leadership of Tommie Gettig and E-E’s Missions
Commission and thanks to the generosity of
Epworth-Euclid members, supplies were purchased to fill
all 75 baskets. Each basket contained a turkey and
appropriate holiday dinner foods plus basics, such as
flour and sugar, to restock each family’s pantry.
Mayfield UMC donated additional foods for the Hunger
Center. (Photo below...)

Markays in
Milano
The Missions
Commission received the newsletter from the Markay family
reporting on their first Christmas in Milano, Italy, effects of
the tsunami on their congre.gation, and other news from their
congregational life. The full newsletter is on the Missions
bulletin board in the office hallway. Prayers are requested for
Kristin and David and their children Hannah and Aidan as they
minister in their new assignment. Epworth-Euclid supports the
Markays in covenant relationship through the East Ohio
Conference of The United Methodist Church. |

You, Too, Can Participate in Missions
By purchasing coffee, tea or cocoa from E-E United
Methodist Women, you can support the United Methodist Committee on
Relief (UMCOR). The funds generated by the sale of these Equal Exchange
Fairly Traded products support UMCOR’s mission to help farmers in Latin
America, Africa and Asia earn a fairer share of income by buying
directly from the farmers, by providing credit that farmers can afford
and by encouraging ecologically sustainable farming practices. Be a part
of this “Mini-Mission” by purchasing one or more of these organic
beverages for your enjoyment. See the UMW representative during
Fellowship Time after church service. These also make wonderful gifts—
remember Christmas is just around the corner!
Your e-mail address can help save our church money. By supplying your
e-mail to the church office, you will then receive meeting notices,
etc., by e-mail thus saving postage, printing and paper costs. This also
saves resources such as our valuable trees. Please send your e-mail to
the office at
staff@epworth-euclid.org.
You may have noticed that we now have available space
for one regular-sized ad or two small ads in the
Outlook. If you have a service you would like to
advertise, please contact the church office for details.
These ads help defray a small portion of our Outlook
expenses.
Support Relief Efforts Through
UMCOR
Members
and friends of Epworth-Euclid Church are reminded and encouraged to
support the programs of the United Methodist Committee on Relief
(UMCOR). The greatest need now is MONEY. Checks should be made
out to Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Church, with “UMCOR” on the
memo line, and dropped in the offering plate or mailed to the church
office. The contributions received each Sunday will be mailed from
the church each Monday, minimizing the delay in getting the money
where it is needed. Be well assured, 100% of every dollar goes for
the relief efforts. All administrative costs are paid by another arm
of the mission enterprise of the United Methodist Church.
UMCOR responds to natural or civil disasters that are interruptions
of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to
recover on its own. UMCOR's work on behalf of United Methodists is
global and includes countries in Africa, Asia, Central and South
America, the Caribbean. UMCOR serves in long-term disaster recovery
in the US.
The immediate goal of UMCOR's international and domestic emergency
response programs is to provide relief and rehabilitation for the
entire person-physical, social, and psychological-in a distress
situation.
UMCOR always works to enable those affected by disasters to take
responsibility for relief and recovery work. Wherever possible,
UMCOR forms partnerships with other religious and secular
organizations to pool resources and avoid duplicating efforts.
UMCOR provides long-term recovery as well as immediate relief.
Recognizing that disasters cause disruptions that can last for years
and often create permanent changes in people's lives, UMCOR works
within a community to address the long-term effects of a disaster
and assist people in rebuilding and adjusting to change.
Domestic Disaster Response
UMCOR maintains a corps of trained disaster response specialists for
quick reinforcement of local efforts, and it keeps a supply of
relief materials in warehouses for dispatch when and where required.
International Disaster Response
When disaster strikes outside of the US-whether a natural or
human-made disaster- UMCOR serves as the primary channel for United
Methodist assistance. UMCOR moves in concrete ways to ease human
suffering and do whatever possible to restore normal life.
