The USO Cookie Project

The United Methodist Women of Epworth-Euclid were proud to take DOZENS (well over 100 dozen) of cookies to the Liberty Hill Baptist Church, which served as the collection center for the “Cookies for Our Troops.” Olivia Crawford, President of Church Women United, was overwhelmed and extremely grateful to Epworth-Euclid UMW for the outstanding response to this very deserving project. What a wonderful way to thank our service men and women and show them we appreciate all they do for us. Thank you one and all!

Learn about UMW and Its Missions

The annual United Methodist Women’s School of Christian Mission will be held at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, on the weekend of July 17–19. There is a one-day “sampler” event on Friday, July 17. Also, another Mission School weekend event will be held at Lakeside, Ohio, the weekend of Sept. 11–13. This is a wonderful opportunity to get away and learn about the missions of the United Methodist Church. The study topics to choose from will be (1) “The Beauty and Courage of Sudan: Why a Dream of Peace is Possible” or (2) “Giving Our Hearts Away: Native American Survival.” Attendees select one of these topics on the registration form and the spiritual growth study for all will be “Food and Faith.” Information and registration forms are posted on the UMW bulletin board in the office hall. The June 15 deadline has been extended until the end of the month. First time attendees can apply for a scholarship to cover the cost of registration. The entire information packet is available online at www.gbgm-umc.org/eastohioumw. Scroll down to 2009 School of Christian Mission.

Don’t miss out on this great get-away weekend.

UMW Recognition Sunday

April 19, 2009, was Mission Recognition Sunday of the United Methodist Women of Epworth-Euclid UMC. In presenting two awards, President Marilou Abele said, “The United Methodist Women Special Mission Recognition is an award presented by the local church unit. This morning we are privileged to present two such awards.

“The first recipient wears many hats in the church. She is often ‘chief cook and bottle washer’ for church gatherings. She oversees the scheduling of the church activities. She led the Epworth-Euclid UMW for more than four years, motivating us to reach out and expand our activities. She is the voice that says ‘come-in please’ when you ring the bell, our financial director and office manager. Jan Peterson, will you please come forward?

“The second honoree is a lady with many talents. She also cooks many church meals and has baked dozens and dozens of cookies for many, many church receptions. As a member of Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Women’s board she initiated and maintained this unit’s UMW Reading Program, which encourages congregants to read inspirational books. Further, she planned and directed the Annual Valentine’s fundraisers. She now teaches our adult Sunday School class. Cindi Martin, will you please step forward?”

Epworth-Euclid UMW Garden Party

By Cathy Day
Twenty-seven members and friends of the Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Women attended a lovely luncheon and fundraising event at Judson Manor on Saturday, September 27, 2008. There was excellent music, food and fellowship as we gathered to provide financial support for the continuing mission programs of our UMW. The Silent Auction and Boutique items offered “something for everyone”! Some of the many items for sale and for bidding were: a beautiful cross-stitched sampler of Epworth-Euclid, wonderful homemade goodies including muffins, marmalades, cookies and breads, colorful handmade lap quilts, lovely jewelry, live plants, a variety of framed artwork, beautiful decorative plates, exquisite glass ornaments and a handmade wool Rya rug. Many, many thanks to all who so generously donated their money, items, services, and time to this annual event. Our UMW of Epworth-Euclid Church raised just over $1,000!! These funds will be used for mission projects locally, nationally and globally as we strive to glorify God in all we do.
